We're Celebrating Juneteenth With a Sunday Packed With Programs at the National Harbor!
This year, 2022, marks the first year that Juneteenth is recognized as a national holiday.
We are proud to partner with National Harbor to present the first Juneteenth Freedom Day Celebration at the Plaza stage! Join us for a day of education, reflection, and celebration, with performances from the Prince George's County Poet Laureate and Youth Poet Laureate, award-winning dance group SOLE Defined, live music by Dupont Brass, and more!
Then, the Juneteenth festivities continue at Arts’tination!
After the celebration, join us from 4–6 PM for the opening reception for our first solo art exhibition, Laurence Chandler: What Does it Mean to be FREE?, brought to our patrons in honor of Juneteenth. Meet the artist, Laurence Chandler, known for his abstract expressionist paintings, and enjoy live jazz and Latin rhythms by Karen Lovejoy and The Lovejoy Group at this FREE event.
What Does it Mean to be FREE? showcases recent and new, acrylic and mixed media works on canvas and paper by Chandler, offering a glimpse into Chandler’s creative process. Paintings selected for the exhibition interpret, explore and present themes related to living unbounded lives, through the incorporation of varying symbols, colors, textures and patterns.
The exhibition will be on view from June 19-July 3, 2022.
