In honor of National Poetry Month, we invite you to our upcoming Celebration of Poetry in Prince George’s County event,.
The Celebration of Poetry in Prince George’s County is a special event where we come together to honor the beauty, power, and magic of poetry. It is a time to share our love for this art form, to connect with other poetry enthusiasts, and to explore the many ways that poetry enriches our lives.
This year’s event promises to be an unforgettable experience, featuring readings from some of the most talented poets in our community, as well as performances by musicians and other artists who have been inspired by poetry.
In addition to the readings and performances, we will also have plenty of opportunities for conversation and connection, including a reception following the main event.
This event in also a retirement celebration honoring Prince George’s County Inaugural Poet Laureate, J. Joy “Sistah Joy” Matthews Alford (2018–2023), who will be stepping down from her role after serving our community with distinction. As you know, Poet Laureate Sistah Joy has been an inspiring voice and poetry leader in our community, sharing her talent and passion for poetry with countless individuals and groups over the years. She has left an indelible mark on our community, and we are honored to have had the privilege of working with her.
