The David C. Driskell Community Park was officially dedicated!

On October 8th, the Hyattsville community gathered to celebrate the park's renaming and honor the park's new namesake, David Driskell!

The day featured a host of outdoor activities, music, food, and fun— including a panel discussion on the life and works of Mr. Driskell. In preparation for the Dedication Ceremony, volunteers helped paint the Park's entrance road in a community wide public art project.

The Hyattsville City Council passed a resolution in June 2021 to rename the now former William Pinkney Magruder Park as David C. Driskell Community Park. The park's new name honors former Hyattsville resident David C. Driskell, a preeminent artist, historian, curator, and scholar of African American art. He was a distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Maryland and his artworks are displayed in museums across the country and have been hung at the White House.
